In this week’s Digital Week in Review: Instagram introduces 3 new features, Snapchat disables third party apps, and an infographic on how to not lose followers on social media.

Instagram Introduces Three New Features

On Wednesday, Instagram made three new additions.. These are the first new features made since December, when Instagram added five new photo filters, slow motion videos, real-time commenting, and the ability to adjust the perspective of photos.

The new features rolled out are Color, Fade, and post notifications.

“Use the Color tool to tint the highlights or shadows in your photo. You can choose from yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue, cyan or green to add a colorful flair to the moments you share. The Fade tool allows you to bring a quiet tone to your photos by softening colors.” – Instagram

Color and Fade are available on iOS version 6.10.0 and Android version 6.19.0.

SnapChat Disables 3rd Party Apps

SnapChat is revoking access from its third party app services in order to contain the content on their network. These third party services have been a pain for SnapChat and have results in an FTC investigation.

“According to Snapchat VP of Engineering Tim Sehn, almost every security issue he’s seen has been a result of API abuse. So the company has taken measures to lock out those allegedly using the API to send spam, or to save snaps. Snapchat is working with Google and Apple to block apps that violate the ToS from the app store.” – Social Times

VP of Engineering at SnapChat, Tim Sehm said; ” We never wanted third-party apps on our platform. We have created a product where it is more critically important than ever before that we control the end user experience. We’ve made commitments to our users.”
