The Dark Knight of SEO: My Transformation at Amsive Digital

Coming out of NYU, I was having the theoretical knowledge of SEO concepts, but I got my hands dirty in the Search Marketing world during my internship at Amsive Digital. I got a well-structured training and guidance here which made me confident to contribute to the industry. I studied all the terms like SEO, SEM, PPC in my classes, but never got a chance to use them in real world.

Starting The Internship:

The day I started, I got to take a tour and met some of my new co-workers and saw the desk I would be sharing. My first few days consisted of getting all my accounts and passwords straightened out. Then, I was given my first project. I discovered the tools “Freshbooks” and “Asana”, which company uses for effective and efficient management. I was wondering how easily, yet in detail, the tasks can be divided among the team members. How efficiently the time can be managed and not get confused between the projects.

My Learning:

I have learned many fundamental techniques that have made me a better marketer in the digital world. First, my keyword research skills have advanced and I feel confident in doing tasks expected of me. Next, I am now more eager to attempt new things like Link-building, Q & As and Analytics. Additionally, I have learned that about Paid Marketing, which I have always thought was hard to understand.

My biggest learning is about the “Do-Follow” and “No-Follow” links. Earlier, my conception was, if we move around the sites and keep posting links intelligently we can improve our ranking. But, to my utter shock, most of the links posted on social media or Q & A websites are “No-Follow”. Similarly, I learnt about using the “Open Site Explorer” and the power it gives you as a marketer. You can compare websites, find the links pointing to a website, gives you all the in-page links and show the external sites giving you inbound links.

The Awesome Experience:

One last note, I have learned and grown from the respect given to me by all the people whom I have encountered in Amsive Digital. There are only a few weeks left in my internship. I am sad to leave but confident I have indeed learned a great deal. I’ve really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere at the company and the wonderful people I’ve worked alongside. I hope there is a possibility for full-time employment, if not, I am grateful for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity fulfilled and the valuable experience to add to my resume.
