Google Making It Easier To Index Apps

Google announced yesterday that it’s making it easier to index apps directly from the search results pages. By adding a “deep link” to the app, a direct link to download it will be provided when someone performs a related search. Google recently added 20+ additional apps to their repertoire and will continue to grow it.

What does this mean for us?

Simply put, more engagement. The ability to download and access an app directly from the SERPs is all about convenience. Here is a screenshot of what it looks like in the SERPs:

I can now click Free and it will bring me to the app store and I can download it there. If I already had this app on my phone that Free button would say Open in Application.

You should also make sure that you have an SDK on your app and are monitoring usage through Google Analytics; you’ll be able to see this increased level on engagement.

How do we get started with this?

There are currently a few requirements in order to get your Android app to show up in the SERPs. The first step is to add a deep link to your app from your website. This will tell Google what content to index in your app. Next you’ll need to link to app from pages within your website that contain related content. This lets Google know if the pages are related to, and can be loaded in your app. Finally, once you’ve completed those steps, you can notify Google by filling out this form.

We at Amsive Digital wish you the best of luck and hope to see all of your apps indexing soon.
