Digital Week in Review

Let’s face it: Social media is constantly changing and it can be difficult to keep up. In an effort to save you time and keep you updated, we bring you some of this week’s most important social media updates.

Facebook

As a business, posting photos on your wall leads to a higher engagement rate than simply using text in a post. As Facebook begins to roll out a new feature, called Collections, companies will have the opportunity to share their products through images on Facebook, and ultimately increase engagement with their fans.  How will it work? After liking a certain company on Facebook, you will be able to access these Collections, and either collect it, “want” it, or even purchase it. Some of the few businesses that have been able to utilize this feature include Pottery Barn, Wayfair, Victoria’s Secret, Michael Kors, Neiman Marcus, Smith Optics, and Fab.com.

Twitter

According to Fast Company, Twitter has recently acquired Vine, a video start-up.  It’s unconfirmed on whether or not this acquisition is in Twitter’s new effort to host its own video service. However, if it is, it will be interesting to see how the acquisition will affect three party video services such as Viddy, Keek, and Tout, which already allow you to share your videos on Twitter. Ultimately, this acquisition will inspire creativity among users and give advertisers the opportunity to promote a brand through a different interface.

Google+

The latest updates to Google+ are the changes made to their mobile interface. Now, mobile users with the Google+ app on their phone will be able to access a list of other Google features such as image search, maps, YouTube, News, and more.  By simply tapping an icon in the left-hand corner of the screen, users can access the list of Google services.

LinkedIn

Although there was an uproar among Facebook users after the launch of Timeline, it seems as though social media companies such as Twitter and now LinkedIn are all jumping on the cover photo bandwagon. Companies on LinkedIn will now have the opportunity to add a cover photo to their LinkedIn page. This change is in an effort to ramp up the engagement between job hunters and business on the social network.  Company pages are now available on the iPhone, Android, and iPad apps.
