On a positive note, there are alternative methods to uncovering organic keyword data, all points which are covered in our latest blog post. Outside of Google’s “not provided” update, Pinterest has recently launched promoted pins, hashtags are now being served up on Google’s search results page and Google has also announced another update to its search technology called Hummingbird. Pinterest Tests Promoted Pins On September 19th, Pinterest announced they will start experimenting with promoting certain pins from a select group of businesses. In an effort to enhance the experience of the platofrm and not take away from it, Pinterest added that the promoted pins will not fail to be anything less than tasteful, transparent and relevant. Google Bring Hashtags to Search Results Page In a recent Google+ post, Zaheed Sabur, senior software engineer at Google, announced that the Google search engine will begin showing hashtags from not only Google+ but Tumbler and Twitter as well in the main Google search results page. After typing in a keyword with the “#” symbol, you will be served up a stream of posts that include a specific hasthag to the right of your search results page. Google’s Hummingbird Update Google revealed that they will be making major changes to their technology, ultimately making it much easier for users to surf the web. Coined as the hummingbird update, this algorithm change allows Google to more quickly parse full questions and to identify and rank answers to those questions from the content they’ve indexed.
