Digital Week in Review: Twitter, Facebook, Google, and Chirpify

It’s Friday! And you know what that means?  It’s our edition of Digital Week in Review!

Between Facebook, Twitter, Google, and an innovative start-up, Chipify, there were some interesting updates in digital media this week.

Twitter: Testing out a “like” option

According to a select group of people, Twitter is currently testing out a “like” button, giving users the opportunity to like a tweet instead of adding it to their list of favorites. These speculations have yet to be confirmed by Twitter, however the claim has been made by several sources, including Search Engine Watch. Although this implementation is very similar to Facebook’s like button, it may prove to be a success for Twitter and in turn increase endorsement between users.

In other news, in a survey conducted by Adobe, out of 1,250 US adults, 53% of consumers and 54% of marketers agreed that there should be a “dislike” button on social media sites. Is this something Twitter should also consider?

Facebook: Testing out Star Ratings

The like button is part of ancient Facebook history. However, there are talks of adding a five-star rating system for places on its social network. According to Inside Facebook, some users are seeing a “rate these places” component with the option to give one to five stars to the places they’ve been to or liked. Could this new feature be in an effort to compete with Yelp? Guess we’ll find out when Facebook confirms if this is a permanent feature.

In other Facebook news, an updated version to Facebook messages may finally begin to be rolled out to all users across Facebook. Read more here.

Google: Inside Adwords

Google Adwords is now capable of tracking iOS app downloads by in-app display ad campaigns. This service has been available on the Android by creating a single code snippet on your Adwords account and installing it in your app. The same method can be used for apps accessible in iOS. Chirpify: Buying, Selling,  Donating, and Fundraising made simple

Social commerce has just been taken a step further. Chirpify, a Oregon-based startup, enables users to instantly purchase and sell on social media platforms, more specifically Pinterest and Instagram. How? By typing the word “Buy” into your Chipify dashboard. The platform seems to be a valuable tool for fundraising as well, allowing people to donate by simply writing “donate” on a platform. The Chipify platform will also allow merchants to gain social data and insights about their customers.
