Digital Week In Review: Facebook VoIP-ing, Most Clickable Twitter Headlines and Evi

In this week’s Digital Week in Review: Facebook is introducing VoIP calling for Android users through the Messenger app, Media Bistro unleashes the secrets to Twitter’s most clickable headlines and Amazon acquires Evi, a voice activated personal assistant technology.

Android Can Now VoIP on Facebook App

Facebook is bringing free VoIP calling to Android and home users within the Facebook Messenger app in the United States.  VoIP stands for “voice over internet protocol” which allows users to make phone calls through the use of the internet. This feature is already available on Androids in 23 other countries and iOS users in the United States have had this feature for a couple months now. For those with Android cell phones, you can now call friends through the Facebook Messenger app by just tapping the info icon in the right corner of the screen and clicking on “free call”. This feature can be used on either a 3G or Wi-Fi connectivity. Home users can use this feature as well by starting a call by opening a chat head by tapping the three dots next to the contact’s name, then open the conversation in Messenger, tap info and then tap “free call”. How Clickable Are Your Twitter Headlines?

Media Bistro has rolled out a list of the ten best methods for getting the most clicks on Twitter. Coming in at number one is publishing a link with a list in it, for example:  “Top Five Ways To Get A Better Sleep” or “The Ten Best Restaurants In Your City”. Another method is posting a tweet that promises something, such as a reason to why you will feel better off, smarter or more entertained than you were before you had clicked the link. Third are poignant questions. Questions attract engagement and suggest that you care about your follower’s input. Also on the list are tweeting links to interesting news articles, intriguing content or celebrity entertainment. To see the full list click here.

Siri….Meet Evi

Evi, a voice activated personal assistant has just been acquired by Amazon for $26 million. Evi is much like iOS’s Siri, who will help search the internet for the questions spoken to it and voice the answers back to you. Evi is expected to be coming to Kindle devices and rumors of a possible kindle phone, but so far Amazon has not stated clearly what they intend to do with the technology.
