Facebook is Primary News Source for Young Adults According to data from eMarketer, Facebook is the social platform most used as a news source by millennials. Almost 60 percent of millennials (people born between the early 1980’s and early 2000) log into Facebook at least once a day, over half of that log in several times a day. During their time online many use their feeds as source of news and information. Most millennials will say that they will watch news stories or headlines posted by others, many will almost like and share these links. After Facebook, the next most popular social platform for news is YouTube. The least popular for news is Tumblr. Twitter is another popular source with 26 percent of the journalists surveyed saying that they use Twitter as a lead generation source, and more so than Facebook. Periscope is Twitter’s New Live Streaming Twitter has launched Periscope, a live streaming app for iOS, which has the ability to broadcast a constantly updating stream in real time. Twitter acquired Periscope in January for $100 million in a mixture of stock and cash. There are searchable hashtags for different topics and the ability to follow, comment and like. Twitter sees this as an opportunity to deliver even more credible news with its live video content. The week old iOS app will only zoom in on a large geographical regions , as to not pinpoint exactly where you live or are broadcasting from. You can also turn off your location while streaming.
