Facebook’s Q3 2013 Earnings Exceed 2 Billion Dollars

Facebook has announced its Q3 earnings which have totaled 2.02 billion dollars in revenue. This is the first quarter where the company has exceeded 2 billion dollars, beating the projected 1.91 billion in revenue. Earning per share were .25 cents which was well above estimates of .19 cents.

Facebook has made growths among other metrics as well, with the number of daily active users up 25 percent to 728 million and Facebook’s overall users up 18 percent to 1.19 billion. Mobile MAUs are up 45 percent to 874 million and Facebook’s monthly active users were up by 40 million overall. Most of this growth was international as there was only 1 million new users coming from inside the United States.

“For nearly ten years, Facebook has been on a mission to connect the world. The strong results we achieved this quarter show that we’re prepared for the next phase of our company, as we work to bring the next five billion people online and into the knowledge economy.” – Mark Zuckerberg

iPads Now Allowed During Takeoff and Landing on Flights

Passengers can now use their iPads, Kindles and other tablets “during all phases of fight”. The FAA has announced that personal electronics can be now used during take off and landing. However, cell phones are still banned.

“Passengers will eventually be able to read e-books, play games, and watch videos on their devices during all phases of flight, with very limited exceptions. Electronic items, books and magazines, must be held or put in the seat back pocket during the actual takeoff and landing roll. Cell phones should be in airplane mode or with cellular service disabled – i.e., no signal bars displayed—and cannot be used for voice communications based on FCC regulations that prohibit any airborne calls using cell phones.    If your air carrier provides Wi-Fi service during flight, you may use those services.  You can also continue to use short-range Bluetooth accessories, like wireless keyboards.” – FAA press release.
